APPENDIX C: SETTING UP AND ACCESSING PBWORKS WIKIS
There are several ways for a potential contributor to become involved with wikis on PBworks.com (formerly PBWiki.com). We will not attempt to document all of these because they can get complicated and are subject to change. The reader is referred to the PBworks User Manual at http://usermanual.pbworks.com. Suffice it to say that there are four major ways to become involved:
1) Being asked by the administrator of an existing source case wiki for you to make a contribution to that case (only)
2) Asking the administrator of an existing source case wiki to make a contribution to that case (only)
3) Starting a new source case wiki as a first time PBWorks.com user
4) Starting a new source case wiki as a current PBWorks.com account holder
In the first situation the Administrator assumedly already has your e-mail address and simply sends you a request. Your e-mail address is your password. You are faced with different kinds of editing restrictions depending on whether you are designated as:
Administrator, Editor, Writer, or Reader (see http://usermanual.pbworks.com/w/page/11632149/Permission-Levels for details)
In the second situation you send an e-mail to the Administrator (whose e-mail address can be found in the case wiki). Assuming acceptance, the rest of the process is the same as the preceding.
The third situation is quite different. You have to create an account in http://pbworks.com and agree to one of the various plans. There is a free account for an individual, if you so desire. You become the Administrator of the new wiki. Peruse screen captures C1 and C2 for sample information that may be requested of you. Our convention is to keep the name of the new wiki short and all in capital letters (like “TRANSPORT-PRIVACY”). The sign-up process comes out at a new FrontPage (C3) for your designated wiki.
Note: PBworks now allows only letters and numbers in a wiki’s name: no special characters or spaces.
The fourth situation is similar to the third except the only information needed is the name of the new wiki. This is added to your account listing.
For the "Variables in Categories" view, you need to ask the administrator of http://compassvariablesincategories.pbworks.com to be an editor so you can add/edit a page containing the listing. Similarly, for the "Variables in Relationships", view a page needs to be added to http://compasscases.pbworks.com.
