      14. PUTTING A VARIABLE AND THE LIST ALL TOGETHER

In a COMPASS source case view a variable is assigned to a single web page.  The final format (template) for a variable is as portrayed in Appendix A. The required information is essentially the same as that exemplified in TP Page16. The major differences are in the headings and descriptions of both the influencing and influenced variables.  These can be understood through comparison to the completed form in TP Page17.

Note: Do not forget the double asterisks right after the ID Code for each variable.  These serve a particular purpose in the use of COMPASS. When a search in the case wiki is made for “**” (without the quotes), the result is a listing of all the variables (ID Codes and short descriptions) in the case. This gives the user a broad overview and may be helpful to the contributor for the same reason. It also may be helpful in checking to see if a particular variable already has been entered.

Returning to the main subject here: after the information on each variable has been transformed appropriately, the listing should be complete. You may want, however, to put the information for each variable on a separate page in the text file. This will make it a little bit easier to copy and paste into the associated website.
